Final Fantasy VII is one of those games that you love to play even though the graphics are all outdated. But what if you could play the same old FF7 that you know and love with enhanced graphics? That's right, thanks to the dedicated hard-working people over in the Qhimm Forums there are unofficial 'patches' that you can get to enhance your FF7 experience. Before I start I would like to let it be known that I did not create any of the mods in this instructable nor do I credit for them. Some of the mods that I would recommend are:1) Aali's Custom Graphics Driver (Allows you to increase the game resolution.
It's also needed for most of the other mods)2) Phoenix Rejuvenation Project (Changes most characters in the game from their blocky sprites to more lifelike ones)3) Team Avalanche's Graphical Overhaul (Improves both 2d and 3d game backgrounds, GUI's, etc.)There are a lot more cool mods that you can get (such as 9999 Limit Breaker, that allows your HP/MP/Damage go beyond 9999) but this instructable will only cover these four. If you want to look into more mods have a look at the Qhimm forums or go to.Okay, so what you will need for this instructable is:1) A PC. (Not a mac or Linux)2) Software to decompress.zip files. (WinRAR is free and easy)3) An official FF7 game for PC (Not the Ultimate version)4) The official. Aali's custom graphics driver is essential for many of the ff7 mods out there. It allows you to edit some aspects of the game.Firstly, you need to make sure that you have installed the game in it's default location which should be something like 'C:Program FilesSquare Soft, IncFinal Fantasy VII'.
Then run the install the official. It's best to turn off the user account control for this but you don't need to. If you're having a bit of trouble in later versions of windows using compatibility mode and change to windows 98 (I know this game is that old.)Also, for some reason you need to make sure that you have filled all the save slots filled (i.e save00.ff7 to save09.ff7) and the ff7input.cfg (this file is created when you first play the game). An easy way to this is play to the first save point then copy that file 10 times and rename it accordingly (i.e they will all be save00.ff7 so change to save01.ff7, save02.ff7, etc.)Okay so know you're set up to start modding! The.zip file containing Aali's custom Graphics Driver can be found. This mod is actually quite easy just extract all the files into your Final Fantasy 7 folder in Program Files. Once you've done this run the FF7Config and you should get a message saying something like 'pass'. In the ff7opengl.cfg file you can manually edit your preferences for the game. Now let's move onto some fancy looking mods!
This one is one of my favorite mods for FF7 it replaces most of the old blocky NPC sprites and replaces them with nicer more realistic ones. You can find the installer needed. After running the installer, you can delete the two new icons on your desktop, they're useless. Go to Final Fantasy VII folder and find the data folder and look around for ffprp.
In the folder, change the 00.lgp to char.lgp and 01.lgp to worldus.lgp. Replace the existing char.lgp with the new one in the field folder and replace the worldus.lgp with the new one in the WMRP folder. Both the folders can also be found in the data folder. Once you are done, delete ffprp and run the game. You should now have some new pretty awesome sprites!
This another very good mod in which many of the backgrounds and GUIs have been greatly improved. The world map has been retextured and there's even a new cool battle sprite for Barret. There's two different installers you can use for this, either high quality or low quality it depends on what size resolution you want to use. Both can be found.Again, this mod is pretty easy all you need to do is run the installer and decide what you want to install and what you don't. It's pretty straightforward. There are a lot more mods available for your new and improved Final Fantasy VII and I would definitely recommend installing some of them, especially the APZ Cloud project where the Cloud battle sprite is replaced with an awesome new one (as shown above!) but it's a bit trickier and requires a bit of knowledge using the Highwind tool. Go to for a detailed description on this project and for more instructions on different FF7 mods. Also, I would like to add again that I take no credit for any of these as they were all created by the talented and dedicated people at the Qhimm Forums. It may not be PS3 quality graphics but at least you can relive one of your favorite old games with jazzed up new graphics!!
The mods upscaled Full Motion Videos need to be installed manually and don't need the 7th Heaven Mod Manager. If you do not want the updated FMVs in Remako, you can skip this step.Unpack the separate FMVs download or the Complete Download zip file, depending on which you downloaded. Drag the movies folder to the data folder in your FF7 installation.
Overwrite when asked. The path of the data folder probably looks something like this:. C:GamesSteamsteamappscommonFINAL FANTASY VIIdata. C:GamesFINAL FANTASY VIIdataStep 10: Enabling the mods. Hey everyone. So I ran into this same issue and found a solution to this and got my version to work. I don't know for sure if this works on other installs off FFVII, but it does work for the Steam version.
It looks like there is a bug with the newest version of 7th Heaven ver 1.55 that causes this. There are two solutions. One is to revert to the previous version (1.54) OR you have to start the game in steam, play until the first save spot and save your game once in all 10 blocks.
Once you do that exit the game and go to your 'DocumentsSquare EnixFINAL FANTASY VII Steamuser(insert yours)' and copy the contents in that folder to your save folder in the modded version. Start up the modded game in 7th Heaven and you're good to go! Here is the original link that I found this out at.https://steamcommunity.com/app/39140/discussions/0/97644642/. I fianlly got remako mob to work for me:)) all's i did was Go to C:UsersAppDataRoaming7thWorkshop and delete everything. Reinstalled ff7 from stream, did the patch, then i unzipped 7th heaven files to desktop & did a fresh install of 7th Heaven 1.54 (don't update), then when 7th heaven loads up i let it put library location in default place, (DON'T CHANGE IT) NOT IN MOD FOLDER AS I USALLY DID, that's all i did different and everthing works great, here is example F:SteamLibrarysteamappscommonFINAL FANTASY VII7th Heaven. After exhausting pretty much all possibilities, I don't think Remako works with Reunion, or at least not the R05C all-in-one installer.
If I just do a clean install of the game, convert it and install Remako in 7thHeaven, Remako works flawlessly. However, if I install Reunion at any time, either before or after Remako, the latter stops working. I'm thinking it has something to do with Beacause, as that has to edit flevel.lgp to change the script and that's conflicting with Remako. Then again, I'm eight years old and I have no idea what a video game even is so idk man.
I fianlly got remako mob to work for me:)) all's i did was Go to C:UsersAppDataRoaming7thWorkshop and delete everything. I've been continually confused about the selection of mods and which ones 'The Reunion' includes in its 'several mods in one' package. I see this incredibly long list of mods and think 'arent most of those texture upgrades included in the reunion? Can you mess anything up having more than one texture mod for the same set of textures?'
The second question I had regarding these mods is whether there is a single link or database that lists the download locations and descriptions of all popular FF7 mods. I had a hell of a time trying to find that, and then eventually just settled for the ones listed in the 7th heaven mod manager catalogue. Thank-you for this!! The game looks so damn good for originally being so ugly with its ancient polygons and low-resolution, static backgrounds.I spent 13 hours trying to correct an issue with FF game converter that for some reason messed up the font/text in game and made it impossible to play correctly. Many dialogue boxes were incomplete and you couldnt see which choices to make when talking to characters. It also showed up when accessing the main menu in the game.
Many of the words and data were cut off, jumbled together or missing entirely.I'm not sure exactly what fixed it, but after re-installing all mods about 4 times, I changed windows custom DPI scaling to 100%, re-installed the steam version of FF7, re-copied that version into another folder, and then one by one got the latest version of several mod tools included in the 'Modding FF7 Setup Files' download. Some of those are out-dated (7th heaven and game converter mainly). The text problem did not occur until I used the game converter file. Then, after installing 'The Reunion' mod, the text got even worse and the game would freeze on random dialogue boxes. I was certain I did everything mentioned in this blog except for the tool included in the 'Modding FF7 Setup Files' used for removing FF7 windows registry keys, which may have been the culprit in this situation. It's included in the step-by-step tutorial video you linked at the bottom of this blog, but is not included in your own list of steps. This was my first experience modding FF7. At first I thought the 7th heaven manager, this blog, and would be enough to make it a painless process, but it turned out to be a bit frustrating.
Now that everything is working (for now), I am extremely pleased with having a butt-load of upgraded textures in one of my classic favorite games that I havent played in ages.I'm curious, what other mods would you suggest besides Remako, The Reunion and a mod to upgrade the FMV(cut-scenes)? Those 3 seem to cover quite a lot. I got it working flawlessly. First of all I would say to test on new game as it runs through a cinematic, the map, and a battle sequence all really quickly for trouble shooting. I redid all the installation from the 2 videos above and I got it to work after 18 hours. Do not give up. It is totally worth it, my wife was making fun of the squares in the unmodified version lol.
This is better than upscaling or adding simple filters. I noticed 2 things wrong with the videos though if you are only trying to get the remako mod to work I would suggest to do this. In the first video or top video he says to add the bc ff7.exe. Do not do that. CaptRabau use the standard ff7.exe. The second thing I noticed was when they added the remako mod they put it in the 7th heaven folder. Do not do this.
Go to where you installed ff7 and look for ff7's mod folder and place the remako mod directly in the 'mods' folder. Then when 7th heaven asks for the library location select the location of your ff7 'mods' folder. Also I had under library in 7th heaven I had to 'import' from 'Iro archive' and browse manually. I hope this works for you all. Other than that if you follow the guide and videos it should work. I was able to get the mod to work, get the battle health bars to work, and my cinematics stopped saying not a png file. Good luck everyone!
Hi people, for what i've seen & read, i found that the mod is so good. FF7 is my favorite game all-time.
Anyway, i have a problem with the installation just at the beginning:(. When i run the game converter, it doesn't work. I've tried with everything, run as administrator, disable uac, enviroment variables, run cmd as administrator and then run the game converter, i always got that red box with the message 'installation aborted. Access denied. With administrator privileges' or something like that. I also tried to decompress with winrar and then edit the code that check for administrator privileges on the.bat file, with that did i run the.bat, it works until i have to put de directory of the game, i put it and then cmd automatically closes itself. Please help me with this. And thanks.PD: also i'm administrator, and the files are in a folder where i have total control.
Ah, something more, i have win 10 home edition i think, that could be a problem?Amazing job, i hope i can try it time soon. I have a folder called 7th Heaven inside the FF7 main folder along with my normal 7H1.54 and that the 4.iro files are there as well? I'm asking because these seems like duplicates of the same files from the mods folder and their size are quite huge. Can we erase those in the folder mods?I did everything as mention in the guide step by step (using the 1998 version) but there is no sound.
Every time the game is trying to start a new music I have an error messsage 'can't open music in.ogg' The FF7/music/vgmstream folder is empty so that explains it. The FF7 installer did not ask for cd2.3.4 so I might have missing files I guess. For those of you on the 1998 version the music patch is available on nexusmods then you can play with the vgmstream flawlessly. I'm still stuck without the pre-rendered background working but the battle scenes are working so there might be something the Reunion patch does that breaks the pre-rendered from working because it was working before I installed it. BTW, don't install the Reunion mod AFTER Remako because it's adding custom FMVs at a lower resolutions.
If anyone got some clues to make the pre-rendered background working (something in the.cfg I guess?) I'm out of ideas. Can't wait to play this:). You are absolutely right about the hassle to make it working (mine doesn't work either now with the reunion patch applied). If FFVII would be freeware/abandonware it would be easier because we could just patch the game in a working state, zip it and upload it online and everyone could have it working in HD without issues. I believe the op did a great job explaining step-by-step how to do it but unfortunately it's a hit-or-miss for most people.PS: You probably know it already but make sure you are using FF7 Game Converter in Administrator Mode. Just followed all the steps and started the game, which works btw. However, despite 7thHeaven saying the mods are activated they seem not. Now I honestly haven't played that much FF7 before but the opening intro doesn't look that different from how I remember it, and the character models are exactly the same.I'm not sure how to fix this, 7thHeaven says all the mods are activated and I followed the instructions to the letter but the game still seems to be in its original form. Also, would this be controller compatible?
It works perfect y'all, just read up the comment section after following the initial tut from author. There are certain parts that needs updating such as the mods (iro file) to show up in your library and also which ff7.exe to pick in the settings tab.
Ff7 Mods Steam Version Download
Mine works by picking the ff7bc.exe and then at the library tab click the import tab and choose from iro archive and find the folder where you have extracted the remako mods there should be 4 files and individually import then 1 by 1 and then just activate. As for order i chose from bottom to topworld textures, menu avatars, pre-render backgrounds, then battle textures and viola finished. Launch game and enjoy. I have this error?System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly '7thWrapperLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies.

Psychological benefits of learning a second language. In my neck of the woods that means age 9. I was not willing to wait that long and took matters into my own hands.
#1 Edit: My bad, the missing mod files all seem to be available at this linkand probably on the torrent but it doesn't load for meSo you might aswell just follow the default modding instructions at and not take any shortcuts(personally i've been trying to do this for 4+ hours now and it keeps bugging so i'm well onboard with reverting back to my shortcut version, which takes like 5 minutes to implement. #5 hi guys I just joined here just to say this:can someone PLEASE repack a new ISO with the upscaled/HD facepalmer textures??? This is WAY too much work for EVERYONE to do every single time they want essentially 1 effect. Someone PLEASE repack the 2012 ISO with textures filtered by facepalmer or w/e the best one is (why not xbrz 1.3??).
Ff7 Mods Steam Version Download
Oh yeah and add the anxious hearts sound that restores the full chorus in one winged angel at the end among other things. Ff7 without that is unacceptable. And seed so all these awesome fans of FF7 and square enix don't waste their lives unsuccessfully trying to implement them. I love the modding scene etc and it would be lovely if we could all devote the hundreds of hours of learning it takes to fully understand it, but it is just ridiculous for us all to do all this work.: THANKS!p.s. 99% of the mods are trash. (as much as I appreciate the effort and possibilities, the art could be WAY better.
Computer programmers are not necessarily artists.). I vehemently prefer the original design from square-enix.
There is something awesome to be said of low-spec design. Good examples: final fantasy four heroes of light. Final fantasy 4 Nintendo ds remake. Just as there is something to be said of sprites. And I guarantee we will continue to see new titles with low spec low res polygon design in the future just as we continually see new pc etc games with sprites.
Because there is an interesting aesthetic quality going on. The ps4 remake is for 'new' graphics. The original ISO is for original graphics, which, I agree look like trash on modern systems.
They used to be filtered by the old school TVs they were designed for. You're actually just seeing them in higher quality on new lcd/plasma screens in way higher resolution, which, ironically makes them look worse (in a way. The colors are better).
But upscaling is needed. And do it in directx please opengl doesn't run on my 3dtv. Ah wishful thinking. THANKS!.edit.I have successfully applied the facepalmer textures using this method. Definitely looks amazing. Just wish there was an addendum to this process that showed how to apply the world map and battle textures which I was expecting but are missing.
Also, it broke stereoscopic 3d as I was expecting because it now runs in opengl. So this is a no go for my 3dtv, but it will however look great on my laptop. Ran into a few snags with this process:-I had to apply this process before activating my game-step 8 is uneccesary it is on that by default-there should be a step that says 'click clear configuration'.
To remove all the other crap. I just wanted upscaled textures only like you. And this method as described installs a bunch of other crap (from the default standard install, if clear config is not selected)-even if directions are followed precisely.-I had to open the 'ff7opengl.cfg' and manually rewrite the confi, to disable a bunch of other CRAP that was installed. EVEN with clear configuration selected.-EVEN after configuring everything to omit uneccessary mods, what is supposed to be called Fury effect from Hyper items is now called Anger ;-ps3 controller/motioninjoy xbox controller profile no longer works. Must use ps3 now.
And the ff7input.cfg and save files etc. Are no longer exclusively in the documents folder, they're also now in the main directory. And not linked to the original ones.-the new input config in main directory doesn't work. Config from documents doesn't apply to modded.exe.
I can make a controller profile in ds3.exe or joy2key.-there is a new broken shortcut on desktop called FF7+.exe (in addition to the new 'final fantasy vii' shortcut to modded version). No idea what it does. But i'll probably just delete it next time (when I install windows 10 final version on july 29th). Or if deleting it breaks something i'll just hide the file.-there might have been a couple more issues, nothing major. If your screen resolution 'make text and other items larger or smaller' (a.k.a scaling) is activated, like on my system, at 150%.
You will not be able to see the last few options in the resurrection configurator. 'disable display scaling' does not work. Have to reset scaling to 100% in windows, reset computer, and then the resurrection window displays properly and everything is configurable now.CONCLUSION:I deeply appreciate your process. Please modify it to add the following:-add battle and world map textures(^ this, plus your pre-rendered backgrounds, would be the crowning achievement visually, in my opinion. I have heard glitches arise like in the crater where that lightning strike happens with upscaling, hopefully you have that fixed?-fix the sound so that the one-winged angel song at the end plays correctly.p.s. If anyone has trouble with their ff7 game saves being deleted by the cloud / sync issues making continue take forever while playing in normal mode from the launcher, be sure that ff7en.exe, ff7launcher.exe, and the new ff7.exe from this process, are all added to be allowed by windows firewall. THEN uncheck the box so that they're not allowed by windows firewall.
THEN go to 'advanced settings' (firewall) inbound rules right click every single item having to do with ff7 click properties click block apply. THEN right click them all (still in firewall advanced inbound rules) and click enable to activate the rule. THEN go to C:UsersNameDocumentsSquare EnixFINAL FANTASY VII and delete the app notepad file, and the proxy and network files. Go to C:UsersNameDocumentsSquare EnixFINAL FANTASY VII/rld and bring your save game in from wherever you backed it up (hopefully). Right click save00.ff7 properties read-only apply. Boot up the game.
The CONTINUE option is no longer greyed out. Hit continue!:D save to slot 2. Go back to C:UsersNameDocumentsSquare EnixFINAL FANTASY VII/rld and now delete the read-only save file called save00.ff7. Boot up game.
Load that slut 2 save you just made. Save to slut 1.
Back to windows rld directory, delete save01.ff7. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY (don't make them read only. That's only for the fix so the cloud doesn't delete them.
You won't be able to save over them if they're read only lol).^ that will only ever need to be done once with the firewall rules. Back up that save file to your desktop or whatever just in case, periodically.
Also, that only applies to running the game the normal way without mods (I think). If you want to copy your save file from before your modding to load with mods, you need to copy save00.ff7 from your cockuments/squeenix/rld folder to your main ff7 directory where it is now located from this modding process. Those two save files are not linked.
Playing in normal mode and saving will not load from the same spot in modded mode. You'll have to copy your save files back and forth if you're switching back and forth (like me. Between normal mode which allows stereoscopic 3d if you have 3d monitor/tv and 2d mode for the awesome filters on your non 3d screen). And since I am feeling particularly generous, here are my.nip 3d profiles for NVidia inspector. Crap I don't see an upload button.
Iit goa gate cutoff 2018. Well basically. Ctrl+t works on this game (to activate 3d). Using control+f5/f6 you can adjust convergence values. Save adjustments with ctrl+f7. Your convergence values should look like this:ff7:StereoConvergence=53 (440281b7)ff8:StereoConvergence=54 (4412f8bd)you can check where your convergence values are at in C:UsersNameDocumentsNVStereoscopic3D.LOG (after you have activated 3d and adjusted the convergence values to try to match mine, and hit ctrl+f7 to save a profile).then everything will look as good as possible.
Believe me I have a BFA in 3d animation and spend all day configuring stereoscopy with iz3d.exe, tridef, and NVidia 3d vision. That's as good as it's gonna get with this game.
And it looks pretty freaking cool in 3d!:D just wish we could get upscaled textures going in direct3d mode: in pre-rendered textures, battles, AND world map. And fixed sound to bring back the chorus in one-winged angel. Sorry for any repetition I tried to convey the info as concisely yet thoroughly as possible.
#6 wow what a post lol. You sure had some issues. This probably isn't the place to post asking for repacks/anything though (no one here has any affiliation with ff7 modding including myself. Infact i deleted the game the next day so i could play some dota).i agree, i had a playthrough in the past with the advent children character mods and ultimately prefer the original blocky designs. They are cool for 1 playthrough tho for a different experience.in the future if i play the game i would probably play the playstation emulated version (epsx?) because afaik you can just click 1 button and the emulator upscales the game resolution for you, rather than having to mod anything. I actually done a whole playthru like that in the past but completely forgot about it (whoops).
Altho i do prefer the pc version dialogue.
Final Fantasy VII is a console role-playing game developed and published by Square (now Square Enix), and the seventh installment in the Final Fantasy video game series. It was released in 1997 and is the first numbered Final Fantasy game for the Sony PlayStation video game console and Microsoft Windows-based personal computers; it is also the first to use 3D computer graphics featuring fully rendered characters on pre-rendered backgrounds. The game's story centers on a group of adventurers as they battle a powerful mega corporation called 'Shinra', which is draining the life of the planet to use as an energy source. As the story progresses, conflicts escalate and the world's safety becomes the central concern.
